A little Hawaiian punch ...

How was Hawaii? Well, my dorm was a little grim ...

But look at the view from my window!

There are flowers absolutely everywhere

Even in the drinks:

Speaking of drinks, Jenifer recommended the 'Lava Flow': I bought this one at The Mai Tai Bar on the upper level of the Ala Moana Shopping Centre. Deeeee-licious on a solo evening jaunt, with book.

Speaking of drinks again (because what's a vacation without excessive alcohol), can you believe that I got carded AGAIN! Dudes, the drinking age is 21 in Hawaii, and I'm 35. My companions marched on into the bar while I was detained by a massive, massive bouncer who checked my Ontario Driver's License, and then stamped my hand. Everyone had a good laugh. And I wasn't even wearing the green sweater!

Alpha DogMa, I know you've waited a long time to see my mustard yellow purse, but how about my new favorite, a lime-green one, leather, on sale at Macy's?

Well, okay, I took a picture of the yellow one, too, just for you:

The best part of buying a new purse (and matching wallet!) was standing in front of the mirror at Macy's, obsessively slinging and reslinging three nearly-identical lime-green bags over my shoulder, taking a full half an hour to make up my mind. I absolutely cannot shop like that at home, and sure, it's a waste of time, but what a delicious waste it is, and I'm soooo happy with my new bag.

Um, did I say 'vacation'? I meant work. Yes, of course. The conference. I gave a paper on community-building and self-reflection in mommy-blogging. Fifty people showed up. It was great! But then, the beach.

I mean, when they give you a sun visor in the conference registration package, you're pretty much compelled to soak up some sun, right? Right?

I recall that they're rather generous with the alcohol at the Mai Tai Bar. ;-)

And I'm the same way buying a bag. Have to keep comparing how they all look!

I love the striking difference - Professor Mimi vs. Beach Mimi.
Looks like a great trip!

Absolutely. I loved the little orchids floating in the pina coladas. Sigh. That was my honeymoon - it's been a while!

And I love the bright, springy, fresh green of that purse. lovely! One should always take time when purse shopping, you don't want to make a mistake, after all.

Sassy handbags, my dear. I love a good handbag. Shoes, I'm neutral about, but I *heart* purses. Both wonderful choices.

"a paper on community-building and self-reflection in mommy-blogging"? WHAT? You've been studying us? Why do I feel as if we have a spy in our midst?

(just teasing)

Delicious looking bag! Oh, and of course the drinks look delicious, too.

Beautiful!!

In the past two weeks, I was not carded 2 out of 3 times! But, I don't think it was because I suddenly look older, I'm guessing they were just too lazy to ask.

Looks beautiful. I like the orchids in the drinks too...they're so abundant that they can just stick them in drinks!Very nice.

Sweet pictures. I love the koi backdrop for the purse shot. (Though I agree the dorm looks a bit sad.)

Your presentation sounds interesting. I remember you posted something that may have been the abstract way back when, and I was intrigued. Is there going to be a proceedings paper?

(By the way, I did a paper on blog commenting for a sociolinguistics class I was taking a year or so back. Speaking of spies in the midst. It was quite intersting to look at the comments for a few posts as linguistic data. I should write a post about it some day.)

I used to go on business trips with my mum. Guess where the most exciting place we went was? Brussels. Frickin' Brussels, and I didn't even go outside the hotel.

No, of course I'm not jealous.

P.S. I love your new bag!

I'd card you for sure! You look about 17 holding that purse.

Okay there are five jillion posts in my google reader, but that Lava Flow just jumped out at me. Yum. Isn't that mall nice too all outdoors and lovely.

Now I just read your other posts...so glad you are feeling better and being so smart to recognize when you need some help...I suck at that. I tend to let things get way too far gone before reaching out for help. You ARE inspiring me to make sure I get help when I need it to. :)

Wow, I'd love to go to Hawaii. It looks heavenly.

Love the lime green purse, btw. I've been ogling a new purse in a shop window, and just found out it is $275. Um, no thanks..

thanks for the virtual Hawaii trip, complete with fruity drink. For a mom sitting next to a toddler who just wet his pants (again), with a five month old passed out blissfully on my lap (but only if she remains on my lap) and a nine year old hanging upside down on the couch ranting about his varying degrees of boredom, this is a treat.

Lovin' the lime green bag! I've been looking for one myself (and I shop for bags with that same technique, btw). Just found you from HerBadMother (and did the poll, which is awesome). Nice to find a fellow academic mama blogger!

That has to be the most delicious waste of time, I must try it myself soon.

And I'm so jealous you got carded - but it's completely understandable.
