True life insights

Lately, we've been waking up late. Or in crisis. Or cranky. Whatever. The point is that it's a race to get out of here in anything near a timely fashion, such that if I brush my teeth I count myself among the fantastically well-prepared.

Usually, I bring my makeup bag to work with me, because I don't get it done at home.

However, on those days that mornings are too rushed to get my face on? I usually am waaaaay to busy at work to manage to get it done there, either.

Begin as you mean to continue, Mimi. Begin as you mean to continue ...

----------

(I'm shameless now. This morning, I had three minutes before class to 'spare' so I dashed into the public washroom in my hallway, Clinique bonus-bag in hand. While chatting with a colleague about school boundaries and urban education, I slammed on: foundation, powder, blush, eyeliner, and mascara. Never broke my conversational stride. And I did manage to apologize for my rudeness, but hell, I've whipped out my boobs in public on many an occasion, so now? I don't care).

I went to a family fun day in the park sponsored by the day care yesterday. I met ALL the other parents. When I got home I realized that while I had managed to brush my daughter's hair once that day, mine was still in a hideous state of bed head. Ho hum.

I'm in a panic these days thinking about how on earth I'm going to get out the door to work with two kids needing to be dropped at two different daycares. I couldn't get to work on time with just one.

In a few short weeks. Ack!

I am guessing she understood, I wouldn't find it weird. Does that make me weird?
I don't wear eye shadow any more. My make up routine is five minutes, tops. I have found that my morning routine gets shorter and shorter, it's all about survival!

My everyday makeup routine has dropped down to mascara, and even that gets forgotten some days.

I did finally get a haircut that can be worn down with no or minimal blow drying, so I've stopped showing up at work and braiding my hair first thing. People at work were pretty shocked when I started wearing my hair down. I started at this job when Pumpkin was 10 months old, so these coworkers had never seen the pre-baby fussy hairstyle.

One of the nice things about being a scientist/techie type is that no one expects much from you in the way of grooming.

My hair has JUST reached the stage where I can wear it without straightening it :) I enjoy that, a lot.

Also, is it rude to do your make-up in public? Wow. I never knew that. I must be breaking all sorts of social conventions every day.

Hah! It would seem that you need a new alarm clock as well.

You are impressive. Make up and conversation in 3 minutes flat.

ugh. Trying to get out of the house on these cold mornings is horrible.... why I carry a little make up bag --a clinique bonus bag, too btw!-- in my purse because I know I'll have mucked it up somehow before I leave the house.

I'm not that coordinated. If I tried that I would have come out looking like Marge Simpson did that time Homer invented a make-up gun (and set it to whore).

one learns to lower the bar a tad over time.

this has been my normal for almost 5 years. preschoolers are a morning time suck - there is always some crazy crisis with a book, a toy, a shoe, the toothpaste, the potty, & oh, look, he took his socks off again!!

I had a new friend and her daughter over this morning and The Baby was adorable - cute matching outfit, hair sweetly styled, face scrubbed - and it wasn't until my new friend left that I realized that I'd forgotten to brush my own teeth. Hooray for me!
